Integrating Learning

Our current writing topic is based on the story "Phineas Fogg, Around the World in 80 Days."

We have mapped the journey he took with his butler and discovered he completed the task by luck as he travelled east to west which meant he managed to save time by going into different time zones.

While Phineas was doing his journey as a challenge and didn't get time to enjoy each new country, we are going to discover celebrations from around the world.  Who knows maybe one day we will be lucky enough to visit some of these locations.

Puzzle Time

One of the activities students in Room 1 like to do on a wet day or in free time is the world puzzle.  Ashton, Rykar and Andrew went as fast as they could to complete this puzzle in 20 minutes.

Swimming

We have finished a week learning to swim at EA Networks.

Two groups were learning water safety and got to experience what it is like to wear a life jacket and to understand how a life jacket is buoyant.   Roseta even said it was important to look after the teachers if ever you get into trouble in the water.  Lucky for you Roseta, I am a fabulous swimmer!

Rippa Rugby

We have had Dale and Kirsty teach us rippa rugby skills - which will is great timing for the rippa games coming up soon at Argyle Park.

Some of the photos are blurry as the students were moving very fast and some blurry as the action got close to Mrs Watson and her focus was off the photo taking and very much in cheerleader mode!

Kahoot

One of our follow up reading activities is to create a Kahoot.  This means creating a quiz for everyone else to play.

So far we have created Kahoots about Waitangi Day, early New Zealand history and the continents.

When we have an open day we will set up a Kahoot for our parents to play.

Wacky Dress Day

It is Dr Suess Day - and today we dressed up in wacky outfits.  Have you read the book "Wacky Wednesday"? It is a neat story of how things all go wrong over one day.  Today we might have looked a bit wrong, but we had great fun.

And our winners were......

Earthquake Drill

Every term we hold an emergency drill.  Sometimes it is for fire, sometimes it is for lockdown and today it was for an earthquake.   We are ...
